In reply to your Excellency's letter to my

predecessor, No. 1656/1899 - 0.5.0./, of 30th January

1904, I have the honour to inform you that the amendment

to Sir Henry Blake's letter of 12th November last, which

is contained in the first paragraph of your letter under

reply, appears to meet the objection raised by my

predecessor, I am therefore submitting the question to the

Admiralty with a recommendation that Sir Henry Blake's

proposal, as amended, should be adopted. In the event of

the proposal being approved the refund of the sum of

$1,092, paid to the Colonial Goverment for this

unoccupied area, would not be necessary.

2.

With regard to paragraph 3 of your

Excellency's letter, I have the honour to enclose a plan

showing the approach road, as now existing, which traverses

part of the area referred to in paragraph V. I understand

that in the event of the Colonial Government wishing to

resume occupation of the area in which this road is

included, an equally convenient road will be provided

without expense to the Admiralty.

Regarding the suggestion as to encroachment,

I would observe that a right of way over the ground in

question was granted with the lease of I.L.1590 of 7th

May 1900.

(sd)

I have &c.

C.G.Dicken,

Commodore.
